I'll be using this wiki page to document my plans and progress on simulating AD fluids and basic event distributions with NuWa. Comments and suggestions are welcome.
AD Fluids Simulations
The preliminary plan is as follows: 1)Simulate flat attenuation w/ square wave emission spectrum , no scattering 2) ↑ With Scattering 3) ↑Model UV-Spectrometer results scaled by 2m system measurements. 4) Simulations incorporating fluorescence spectrometer results. 5) Simulations incorporating (model dependant) normalized fluorescence spectrometer results.
The rationale for the individual studies: 1) Flat attenuation: The flat attenuation study is a single attenuation length for all wavelengths. This is primarily to understand how well we can measure a single attenuation length in different regions of the emission spectrum in situ.
2) Scattering: The attenuation curve will stay flat so that I can deconvolve the effects of scattering and attenuation in the simulation later. This is just a sanity check for thoroughness.
3) Scaled spectra: This would be done with the current emission spectrum in NuWa.
4) Yes, the fluorescence measurements measure the emission spectrum.
5) The light emitted in the fluorescence cell must travel from 0-10 cm before detection in the photodetector. Along that distance it can be absorbed, scattered, absorbed and re-emitted, or absorbed and shifted to a different wavelength. From the input spectrum and the output spectra you can extract a normalized fluorescence spectrum. Since NuWa seperates emission, absorption and scattering these effects must be parameterized separately. Since none of these things are really measured completely independant of one another, you must develop a model to separate the effects in the available data. I have the attenuation lengths from the 2m measurements I made, the fluorescence results from Jim Cumming's measurements and the scattering effects from a model.
I do plan on studying variations in the AD fluids, but not as a large statistics NuWa simulation. With the results from the individual studies above, the rate and energy resolution in each AD should be calculable. From that the systematic contributions from the fluids on a measurement of theta 13 can be estimated.
