Peepli Live is the newest Hindi movie to come out of the Aamir Khan's production house. Directed by Anusha Rizvi, this is a hard hitting satire about the state of farmer suicides in rural India. The well crafted and excellently performed film also shows several other serious issues with a tongue in cheek irony and satire that very few movies have really been able to do. Most Bollywood News are known for their tune sequences, love stories, dialogues and common characters. Rather, Peepli's strengths lies in its

Only two or three directors have the ability to get a nicely written script and churn it into prime time entertainment which not only sends a strong message but also succeeds to rake in good funds in the box-office. Peepli Stay has managed to accomplish both the troublesome functions with such finesse, that one can simply sit and question whether Anusha Rizvi is actually making a debut for a director with this picture.

Because of Aamir Khan, with a solid brand image, the Bollywood Movie Trailers got incredibly good advertising and publicity that is the reason why many individuals did prize Peepli Live. For example, Peepli was the first Indian movie to get to the Sundance film festival in United States. Enhance this the fact that Aamir understands the way to advertise his pictures 'quite' well, and the makers of the movie could not have discovered a better audience.

All said and done, the picture has made tremendous effect on the thoughts of the typical Indian farmer and movie goer. Quite a stark contrast in a state of over 2 billion people.

Sarkar is a picture that's obviously a remake of The Godfather, which the director and producer Ram Gopal Varma says right away.

"Sarkar" is a Hindi word directed at someone in power, so I imagine it is the closest translation available to "godfather."

Amitab Bachchan plays the title role, frequently looking like Gandhi and really silent and considerate, a man of few words.

His son Abishek Bachchan plays the role of the Michael Corleone son - the one who doesn't need to become involved with crime but who is drawn into that world by his love for his dad.

There is an equivalent of Freddy, the weak son who is used by the family's enemies and has to be killed. For reasons I don't understand, he is a movie director.

For reasons I don't understand, there is absolutely no equivalent of Sonny, the powerful but outrageous son who loves the life of crime but who gets killed at the center of the family difficulties.

For me, the biggest problem is that it -- along with Amitab Bachchan's character -- takes seriously Sarkar's part as "protector" of the poor, who are not helped by the government's police and criminal justice program.

It was an part of The Godfather, but Don Corleone understood he was building a base of support for his criminal operations, not nominating himself for sainthood. Sarkar appears to trust his own propaganda.

Don Corleone never thought his hands were clean. Correct, he drew the line at dealing drugs, but otherwise he was getting wealthy catering to the weaknesses of people.

We never see what Sarkar does to help his gangs of do gooders. There's one reference to union labor, however he's avoiding another gangster from taking a short-term gain at a long-term price - but the reference isn't clear in the English subtitles. And again, we are never shown what criminal functions Sarkar is working. He is too busy waving to the crowds around his home Web Site.
