n recent years, bright coloured hair is becoming more & more common. People are bored of the same old dull colours - You wouldn't accept clothing in only 4 colour ranges, so why accept the same limitations on your hair?

Natural Color -- End Result
Blonde -- Lightest Blonde
Light to Mid Brown -- Dark Blonde
Dark Brown to Black Orange -- (not recommended without professional help)

When you have pre-lightened, I strongly recommend shampooing with a purple toner shampoo to take the brassy yelloworange tinge off, as this can change your end colour! Many different individuals will advise many different ways to do this, but this is the way I like to take action -

1. Wash your hair well with a PH Balanced Shampoo. I like La Riche 'Directions' Pre-Colour Shampoo, as it was especially designed for this purpose. Rinse & towels dry (get as much moisture out as possible less the hair being dry)

2. Put down towels where you will be sat, stick an old shirt on semi permanent hair dye -ers such as myself have the old, trusted 'Hair Dye Tshirt' which is for this purpose only - just remember not to stick it in the washer with your white shirts after!). 3. Stick on your own gloves and vaseline - it is usually easier if you do the vaseline bit BEFORE setting gloves on, or vaseline will end up all over!

4. If you are mixing colours, mix well in an old bowl/jug which one can throw away later, or rename the 'Hairdye Bowl'

5. Utilize the dye to your hair. In case you've got someone to help with this, you'll get a more even coverage if a Tint Brush is used. You can also use an old toothbrush, your fingers or one of those squeezy mayo bottles (washed well, minus the mayo in!)

6. Cover your own hair with clingfilm or a shower cap - you could appear absurd, but you're not going to see the queen, along with the plastic helps to retain heat, which in turn helps the colour take for your hair better.

7. Leave for the number of time advised in the instructions - because there's no substances in the Directions/Stargazer dyes, it is not going to hurt your hair if you leave it on more, but it's best to be safe in my opinion.

8. Shampoo your hair with a colour-care shampoo. La Riche 'Directions' Colour Care Shampoo is a good alternative, since it is expressly formulated for use with bright, semi permanent hair dye. Remember to give your scalp a little bit of a scrub, to get rid of any staining. Rinse off, again not letting the coloured water run over your face - even the coloured water can stain, so make sure that you still have your gloves on!!

10. Condition your hair. I use La Riche 'Directions' Colour Care Conditioner - yet again it is specially formulated to be used with these hair dyes, which your standard 'off the supermarket shelf' brand won't be.

The colours Directions currently have on offer include -

Alpine Green, Apple Green, Apricot, Atlantic Blue, Bright Daffodil Yellow, Carnation Pink, Cerise, Coral, Dark Tulip, Ebony, Fire Red, Flame, Flamingo Pink, Fluorescent Glow (UV Reactive), Lagoon Blue, Lavender, Lilac, Mandarin, Midnight Blue, Neon Blue, Pastel Pink, Pillarbox Red, Plum, Poppy Red, Rose Red, Rubine, Silver, Spring Green, Tangerine, Tulip, Turquoise, Vermillion Red, Violet, White Toner more info.
