If you're on the search for the best jogging stroller, chances are you've already seen what's available, and more than likely become a bit overwhelmed. Well, I'm here to help you narrow down your search. There are a few key features that will help you identify which is the best jogging stroller for you.

All-Terrain Strollers

Some people choose to buy a jogging stroller not necessarily because they intend to jog with it, but because they like the look of the three wheel design. Some also choose to purchase a jogging stroller merely because they want the ability to go off-road. In this case, an All-Terrain Stroller would be the best jogging stroller for you. All-Terrain Strollers are frequently advertized as jogging strollers. This can get really confusing because they have many of the same features. They offer a swiveling front wheel that has the ability to lock into a fixed position. The fixed wheel position enables you to maneuver over rough terrain, such as snow, sand, gravel roads, etc. All-Terrain Strollers are NOT intended for jogging. They usually come with smaller wheels, 12 inches or smaller, and tires that are filled with foam rather than air, or EVA tires that are hard plastic, not suitable for jogging. Some All-Terrain Strollers do offer suspension systems, but it's nothing compared to that of a real jogger. So, if you mainly intend on adventuring off road, and do NOT plan on jogging, and All-Terrain Stroller is the best jogging stroller for you.

Swivel Wheel Jogging Stroller

For those of you that plan on jogging about 50% of the time, and walking the other 50%, a jogging stroller with a swivel wheel is the best jogging stroller for you. They also offer a locking front swivel wheel. The swivel wheel enables you to maneuver freely, turn on a dime, and navigate small sidewalks or shopping isles. The fixed wheel enables you to jog, lightly. The swivel wheel jogging stroller is not intended for serious running, only light jogging. They usually offer pneumatic tires and lightweight wheels. Pneumatic means air-filled in case you were wondering. Air-filled tires offer the smoothest ride, especially if you're jogging. The front swivel wheel is usually 12 or 12.5 inches, and the rear wheels are usually 16 inches. The best jogging strollers offer smooth suspension systems. Coil spring suspension systems are the smoothest, but you have to pay a pretty penny for that. Bob Strollers offer coil spring suspension systems, and adjustable shock absorbers. They are the leading brand, but they're also the most expensive. Baby Jogger offers an all-wheel independent suspension system, which is quite state-of-the-art, but will also cost you an arm and a leg. Shock absorbing suspension systems and spring-air suspension systems are much more affordable, but not quite as smooth.

Fixed Wheel Jogger

For those of you that plan on jogging or running at least 80% of the time, than a fixed wheel jogger is the best jogging stroller for you. With the fixed front wheel you have more stability. They are safer! Let me explain why. Imagine you're running down the street with your swivel jogger. The pin in the front wheel somehow comes loose and all of a sudden the front wheel hits a rock and jackknifes sideways. I shouldn't need to explain what happens next. Now, I'm not saying that you can't jog with a swivel jogger, but if you plan on jogging or running a lot, like a 5 mile run every day, this will takes its toll on the equipment. So, its better safe than sorry. Fixed wheel joggers also come with hand brakes, which allow for more control while running, especially on steep terrain. They also offer running leashes, or wrist straps that keep you attached to the stroller at all times. Most also offer suspension systems, and 16 inch tires all around. Depending on where you plan to run, whether it's the street or a trail in the woods, pay close attention to tire tread. If you're mainly going to be running down paved streets or sidewalks, road slick tire tread is best. If you're planning to run on off-road trails, knobby tire tread is best. Another reason why the fixed wheel jogger is the best jogging stroller for running is because they're lighter. The lighter the stroller, the easier it is to push. They also come with very little extra's, not like the swivel jogging stroller that comes with parent trays, child's trays, and sometimes even MP3 speakers. The fixed wheel jogger is designed for a purpose, and that purpose is running. All of those extra's either add weight or get in the way.
